I really am planning an update SOON! And yes, we have kittens available now - 4 really adorable Ragamuffins born in November 13 and 3 Ragapers born October 1. Plus several older babies we need homes for. All loving, adorable and such good companions they probably will get in your way at least once a day :)

A typical morning in our crazy cat house

Posted July 2nd, 2009 by Lori & Rebecca

Waking up around 6:30, there are usually 3-8 cats on the bed with me. Once they realize I’m awake, most come over to get some loving. This morning, Phoebe (my shadow always within 3 feet of me) was zonked at the foot of the bed, and Jayne, Mal, Simon, and Pudding all woke up with me wanting some love and attention. A few minutes later, Angela and Wash came in followed by one of the dogs, Shelby. So we had about a 20 minute snuggle fest.

Getting up and going into the bathroom, Piglet, Book, Mal and Wash all followed to see what I was doing and Angela came in to play with the water as I brushed my teeth. Ramses came in for a few minutes to get a quick petting before he ran off to chase Hodgins down the stairs.

The gang followed me back in the bedroom to get dressed (with Mal attacking my shirt as I took it off the bed and the covers as I made the bed) then we all trooped downstairs and into the kitchen so we could watch Shelby and our other dog Sophie go outside.

Pudding and Anya made sure I made the coffee correctly and everyone checked out the food and water I refilled their bowls with. I checked the littlest ones, Georgie’s kittens, that haven’t quite mastered climbing out of the birthing box yet (any day now that one will be coming) and Marbles’ babies, Speck, Spot and Gigi, came running to see if I had milk for them. I put them in the bowl of kitten chow and they started eating too. Marbles has started to help Georgie with her babies since her own are running around on their own more (she loves snoozing with them when they are little).

By this time, Sophie and Shelby were ready to come inside and checked out the food I gave them too before disappearing upstairs (along with some of the cats) to go to snuggle with Rebecca who was still sleeping. If anyone is in bed in this house, Sophie will be snoozing with them.

So, I got myself a cup of coffee and walked into my office with Anya and Buffy walking in front of my nose before I finally got them to get off my desk so I could check my email and start getting to work. The regular game of chase was just starting in the family room with it occasionally leaping into my office – the participants vary but usually Pudding and Mal or Book start it off. The aim of the game seems to be to see who can be the most acrobatic when trying to tackle another cat and how many things they can make slide or slam off of tables and my desk. Pudding and Book nearly collided in mid-air during one of the maneuvers before bouncing off again.

Just a typical morning!

Georgie’s Babies & Pics

Posted June 22nd, 2009 by Lori & Rebecca

So I sexed Georgie’s babies finally. We have 3 males – a cream, a seal point white/gray, and a gray – and 2 females – a cream and a gray/white. Three of them have eyes open now, the other 2 are still working on it :)

I’ve been adding some pictures of the Firefly boys and Georgie’s litter mixed with a few others over at http://www.twitpic.com/purrsuasions and will add better ones here soon.

Getting the hang of walking…

Posted June 21st, 2009 by Lori & Rebecca

Marble’s 3 babies born May 21 are now walking pretty well. Spots was the first one to figure out how to get out of the box…followed quickly by Gigi. It took the littlest, Speck, a bit longer to figure it out, but they are now running all over downstairs. Still haven’t mastered jumping or climbing yet, but this is really the adorable stage when they are just fun to watch.

We have been giving them regular bottles (KMR – Kitty milk) as Marbles doesn’t produce a lot of milk anymore, but they are getting their teeth now and want to chew on the bottle rather than suck on it. Of course this ends up getting milk all over us. :-( They should be drinking water soon so we will be able to give them bowls of milk until they are ready to eat solid food – it won’t be long with their teeth coming in fast!

They scream a lot and follow me when I’m in the family room. Haven’t come all the way to the office yet, but that is coming soon too I’m sure. They are starting to respond to their names and come when I call them or tap my foot on the floor. Really adorable!

I was just sitting in the chair in the family room trying to get them to suck on the bottle and they were climbing all over me. Little claws hurt, but it’s soooo adorable. If you are ever having a bad day, just let a little kitten crawl on you for a bit!

Georgie is starting to leave the box with her 5 kittens now and then. Their eyes are just starting to open. This is her first litter and she has been staying very close to them hissing at the other cats when they come near. For some reason, she has always loved the downstairs bathroom running in to see us when ever we went in. So after I dug her and the babies out from behind my shipping desk where she had them, we put them in a box in the bathroom and she is happy as can be in there. It’s nice and quiet. The first few days she never left the room, but now she is venturing out for short periods in the family room to eat and drink.

Trying out Windows Live Writer

This is really just a test post to see how Windows Live Writer works. So far, so good. Especially if it will let me post to all my blogs from one place! :)

Five new lovely kittens ready now…

Posted April 2nd, 2009 by Lori & Rebecca

We’ll be adding their photos and descriptions to the “Kittens for Sale” page in a few day, but we do have 5 beautiful babies now ready for their new homes. The Firefly Boys are all males, 3 with blue eyes (1 all white & 2 seal points), and 2 gray/white. They are going to be $300 each.

As I write this they are chasing each other around my office in and out of a shipping box on my floor (I really need to set up a webcam one of these days!)

We are trying to give our momma cat a break and have been isolating the females in the spare bedroom when they go into heat so this may (hopefully) be the last litter we have til Fall.  Poor Isis keeps getting pregnant every time she goes in heat which is just more than we ever intended her to do (but she and Ramses…well, they have their own ideas!). We are hoping we caught her cycle in time and that she will be able to relax for a few months :)

Changing our blog to an actual blog

Posted December 23rd, 2008 by Lori & Rebecca

Okay, so we changed things around a bit and instead of using this area for announcements, we added an announcement block up top and will use this area for an actual blog - what’s happening around here and with the cats, etc.

We also have added a mailing list signup form at right. If you want to know when we have a new litter of kittens, put in your email and we send you birth announcements as well as an announcement of when that litter is ready for their new homes.

So for the fun stuff….

It’s a little bit quieter (just a little) with Sealy and Bones off to their new homes. Vanilla and Willow are being picked up tomorrow though we sold them last night. Willow did her usual love on me when she realized I was awake and I will definitely miss her. Vanilla usually sleeps with Rebecca instead, so I probably won’t miss him as much as Willow.

I often have a bunch of cats on my bed or around me at night and as soon as they realize I’m awake, most come over for some loving. Phoebe tends to snuggle into my foot at night and comes up to see me with the rest of the gang. Pudding and Willow were the first this morning to come purring at me for attention.

Once I’m awake, everyone follows me into the bathroom and then downstairs to help let the dogs out and get coffee. Of course, I also refill the cat food bowls early on so that’s an event they all wait for. And usually have to add water to the water bowl too. We have some food bowls in the family room right now for the kittens though usually the food is in my office up on the file cabinets so the dogs cannot eat it all up on them.

Once I sit down at my desk to work, it’s a race to see which ones will get the prime spots - I have an area to my right they snuggle into and a shelf on the left 1 large cat or 2 kittens can fit into. Right now, it’s Buffy and Cordelia on the right and Phoebe on the left (he or Pebbles usually win that spot).
